Essay

The dissertation is devoted to analysis of treatment results, clinical, hematological, citogenetic, molecular-biological features, multidrug resistance determinants of acute leukemia in persons exposed to ionizing radiation due to the Chornobyl accident. The study results allowed to make a general conclusion and to suggest a new solution of the scientific problem relating to treatment optimization of radiation-associated acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The priority data was found concerning the tumorigenesis, phenotype of leukemia cells, and clinical course of radiation-associated acute leukemia. The strategy of AML and ALL treatment in clean-up workers and inhabitants of Ukrainian territories with high contamination from radionuclide fallout was developed as well.
