Essay

Ethnic conflicts in modern word are reaching critical levels. The salvation of dangerous or potentionaly dangerous regions depends on the development and implementation of effective institutions of ethnic conflict management. In the dissertation author analyzes the successes and failures of attempts at conflict resolution in different countries and offers comprehensive ideas for successful mediation. The author represents the complex political analysis of the nature of ethnicity, its role in politics, how political institutions and legal instruments can influence the course of ethnic conflict. To provide a clear picture of the ethnic conflict the author describes its particularities on each stages: latent, open, violent, postconflict and propose most suitable instrument to manage it. The work demonstrates how negotiation and mediation can promote conflict resolution. It offers a compelling case for the use of both political means (legal system, elections, party system and territorial practice) and a variety of actions (including monitoring, modeling, prevention, peacekeeping, reconciliation) to end ethnic conflict. The dissertation gives the deep analysis of modern approaches to ethnicity, investigates the four main stages and different conceptions of reasons of ethnic conflict.
