Essay

In this work a task has been set for the first time and theoretical fundamentals examined for the recovery of coal based carbonaceous raw materials (pitch needle coke, electrode and impregnation pitches) used for the production of graphitised electrodes capable to operate at high current density. The interface transformations in coal tar pitch and the influence of its group components on the structure and properties of carbonized residues have been studied. It was revealed that the raw material should be thoroughly purified in order to obtain a carbonaceous material with anisotropic structure. This operation is also necessary for the production of impregnation pitch. The kinetics of thorough purification of coal tar pyrolysed to various extent have been studied using centrifugation, extraction and filtration. It was found out that an optimum process in terms of equipment is centrifugation. The relations have been studied between the yield and properties of pitch needle coke, and the process parametersof delayed carbonization and high temperature calcina-
