The dissertation deals with objective and integrated investigation of peculiarities of Ukrainian polemic and publicistic prose poetics of the end of the 16th - the beginning of the 17th century as an important constituent of the native literature of that time. The research emphasizes the communicative function of the prose and reveals its origin, the peculiarities of its development, studies its genre that determined the character of the ideological-literary research of the then writer. The work focuses on the importance of the genre as a specific phenomenon that developed on the basis of the original national and historical principle and the necessity of its modern reinterpretation. One of its most important factors that determined this peculiarity was the polemic and publicistic format subordinated by appealing to mass audience to solve the most urgent problems of that time.
