The dissertation thesis is devoted to the scientific problem solving of the scientific basis improvement of the tractive rolling stock systems. With this aim the effective retention systems for every locomotive series and definite conditions of the exploitation, taking into account established indices reliability at minimal costs spending and detention under repair time, are constructed. The effective retention systems provide us with an opportunity to establish communication between costs spending and detention under repair time to make scientifically grounded decisions while choosing rational retention system's parameters.
