Essay

Dissertation presents a systematic analysis of the Ukrainian media discourse in the 2000s with regard to identities, ideologies and power relations created and maintained in this discourse. Apart from a general survey of the generic and topical structure and ideological effects of the discourse of popular newspapers and television channels, several chapters analyze specific topically defined discursive practices. The main object of analysis is discursive normalization of various social phenomena resulting from the lack of problematization of represented events. Special attention is paid to media representation of ethnocultural and ethnopolitical processes.
