Thesis deals with theoretical, methodological and empirical investigation of the problem of psychological bases of foreign language development of future military professional. Theoretical and methodological analysis of the contemporary state of development of professional foreign language abilities of military professionals has been carried out; sense and peculiarities of the abilities in the context of professional activities of officer personnel who communicate in foreign languages while carrying out their duties have been determined. The methodological and universal theoretical bases of foreign language teaching at the higher military educational establishment have been revealed. The psychological peculiarities of professional foreign language competence development of future military professionals are presented. The essential parts of this competence are well-developed skills and habits in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating in the context of highly developed level of back-ground knowledge about the country the state language of which is taught. The psycho-pedagogical programme on professionаl foreign language abilities development of cadets and students of higher military educational establishment for mastering foreign language has been worked out. The usage of this programme is aimed at effective formation of professional foreign language communicative competence of future officers. The practical recommendations on foreign language abilities development of future military professional have been suggested. The main directions of foreign language abilities development and improvement of professional foreign language training of cadets and students at the higher military education establishments have been determined. On the basis of the investigation results the structural and functional model of foreign language abilities development of future professional has been worked out. The essential parts of this model are the stages of effective development of professional foreign language abilities of cadets and students of higher military educational establishment. Psycho-diagnostic results give the opportunity to develop foreign language abilities on the basis of the level of foreign language communicative competence formation in the context of using teaching psycho-pedagogical technology based on the choice of optimum teaching methods under the conditions of proper socio-psychological provision of study group leadership and creation of professionally aimed problem-solving situations on the basis of socio-psychological determinants of group influence.
