Essay

Dissertation focuses on formation of a planar liquid crystal lightguide structures based on effect of cholesteric-nematic transition for elements and devices of liquid crystal electronics. Studies of electrooptical, elastic, viscosity properties of induced cholesterics with small (up to 6%) and a high content of chiral component are carried out. Computer simulation and experimental investigation of director field deformation and refractive index distribution of homeotropic- oriented liquid crystal layer with planar-oriented core are carried out. A series of structures and optoelectronic devices such as electrochromic displays, powerful laser modulators, planar optical lightguide, sensors of physical quantities are developed.
