Essay

Optical studies of size-dependent, compositional, and structural transformations in matrix-embedded II-VI nanocrystals under external effects were performed. Iintense thermal treatment results in the minority chalcogen being pushed out from the nanocrystals into the matrix. Quaternary Cd-Zn-S-Se and Cd-S-Se-Te nanocrystal rows were identified. Conditions of precipitation Se2 or Te2 molecular clusters as an alternative to II-VI nanocrystal formation in borosilicate glass are determined. Radiation-induced changes in absorption are explained by ionization of the II-VI nanocrystals and charge transfer with radiation-induced hole traps in the glass matrix.
