Essay

The thesis is devoted to the settlement of a scientific problem concerning improvement of long-term allograft survival. The study have included 420 renal transplant recipients. Inadequate suppression of T-helper I lymphocytes in early posttransplant period leads not only to acute rejection but to chronic allograft dysfunction as well. Immunosuppression with monoclonal IL-2 blocker daclizumab, cyclosporine, mofetil mycophenolate and steroids has shown to be optimal for prevention of acute and chronic rejection.Factors that contribute to progression of cardiac pathology and chronic renal allograft dysfunction have been studied. New therapies to slow this progression with antioxidants, ACE inhibitors, ARBs and statins have been worked up.
