The object of the research: women’s higher education in the Russian empire in the 2nd half of the 19th century – early 20th century. The dissertation purpose – to analyse the process of formation and development of women’s higher education in the Russian empire in the 2nd half of the 19th century – early 20th century , to illuminate its basic tendencies and most typical features, to reveal opportunities of use of progressive ideas of this experience in development of higher education in Ukraine. Methods: makro- and microanalysis, method of "psychological mykroskop", method of understanding, historical-critical method of selection of sources, method of interpolation, historical-genetic method, historical-comparative method, method of the system analysis, mathematic-statistical methods. Scientific novelty of the dissertation: the women’s higher education in the Russian empire in the 2nd half of the 19th century – early 20th century is submitted as an independent problem and for the first time became a subject of special research; in the dissertation the systematized statement of the factors, which underlie aspirations of the young women to receive thorough knowledge, the relation of the representatives of a public idea and state authority to women’s higher education is analysed, the principles of construction of system of higher female courses are opened, the productivity of their activity and quantitative parameters of a quota of the students is determined. Practical value: the materials of the dissertation can be used during creation of generalizing works on a history of Russia and Ukraine, scientific development of questions of education, preparation of the monographies and manuals on this thematic; by development of methodical complexes on disciplines of education, science and culture for the students of higher educational institutions.
