Essay

In the dissertation a scientific grounding and generalization of the role of febrile seizures in mechanisms of epileptogenesis and formation of epilepsy are presented. Their trigger role in an initiation of the epileptogenesis system has been proved. An integrated examination of 315 children with febrile seizures and long-term follow-up (during 3-5 years for 175 children, among them 100 boys and 75 girls) was performed. On this basis clinico-anamnestic and para-clinical features of a poor course of febrile seizures evidencing a possibility of febrile seizures transformation into epileptic attacks were determined. Factors which provide a ground for a febrile seizure arising and promote their recurrence and transition to epileptic attacks were defined more precise. On the basis of the rules found out a model of influence of endo- and exogenous factors on development of epilepsy is proposed. For children with febrile seizures scientific-based and clinically approbated tactics of prevention and treatment were working out. These tactics allow us to prevent recurrence of febrile seizures and formation of epilepsies in a latent stage of the disease.
