Thesis deals with theoretical, methodological and practical issues of activating the innovative activity of Ukrainian food industry enterprises from the position of problems and prospects. Genesis and evolution of the theory of innovation is studied. Economists' points of view on basic definitions in the field of innovation and approaches to managing enterprises' innovation activity are generalized and improved. The variants of models of innovation development for food industry enterprises and intellect-information model of the innovation process "spiral" are proposed. Innovative activity and types of innovations which are specific for food industry enterprises are analyzed. Existing methodological platform is studied and author's approach to proposed methodology for analyzing innovations from the standpoint of their combination with other areas of enterprise' functioning is designed. Theoretical approaches to the classification of innovative strategies are generalized and deepened and directions of selecting innovative strategies for food industry enterprises using the matrix of innovative financial strategies are grounded. Development of clustering rocesses is investigated, systematic approach to the formation of cluster type innovative structures is proved, the procedure is determined and the concept of building clusters on the base of science park is developed. The theoretical model of G. Lindquist according to local economic realities is improved.
