Object is technological possibilities calculation methods and mechanisms of the stress-strain state of the metal, the main indicators of quality in the implementation of various processes of forging billets responsible appointment of shortened forging ingots. The purpose - improving the technical and economic parameters of the forging process of large forgings responsible destination based on the development of automated methods of analysis and design, and development of practical recommendations to improve the technology and equipment for the forging shortened ingots. Research Methods are a finite element method (FEM), method of grids, strain measurement, ultrasonic testing, measurement of mechanical properties, macro- and microstructure studies, experiment planning and mathematical statistics. Theoretical and practical results are opened ingot axial defect during upsetting was found, the ratio of stress and strain rate for the simulation of hot plastic deformation by finite element method has been established, the appropriate software has been developed, the effective geometry of short ingots was developed, recommendations and new resource processes forging of large forgings were designed. Novelty - peculiarities of change dimensions of the axial defects in the process of upsetting was found; a new method of experimental research dimensional change axial defect during upsetting was developed; new concept design of new resource-forging process of large forgings was developed; distribution of the main parameters of quality of short forging ingots with directional solidification were introduced. The degree of implementation - new processes of forging ingots shortened without upsetting, software were introduced. Scope of use are enterprise heavy and power engineering, industrial research institutes.
