Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the problem of polyphonic music thought in its historical continuity and stylistic perspective, and therefore in the context of the methodology of musicological analysis, polyphonic patterns of musical art are revealed; the role of polyphony as a factor of texture lines and layers separation, which determines, in particular, the role of texture in contemporary composers’ works, is distinguished. The work defines the expressive role of polyphonic writing techniques that can ensure the effectiveness and functional determination of certain elements of language (sound, line, counterpoint), the overall process of form creation (dominance of single deployment logic); systematizes the interdependences of functional and structural principles of polyphonic writing and semantic functions of polyphonic techniques in the dramaturgy of contemporary composition. The author substantiates the idea of the dominance of the polyphonic thinking logic which forms the features of space-time relationships in contemporary music. The revealed complexity and ambiguity of sound process in polyphony allowed characterizing the birth of polyphonic multi-voicing as a result of multi-level generalizations enriched at each stage of development with a new sense.
