Essay

The systematical conceptual approach to analysis of nation as term and social cultural phenomenon at context of world and Ukrainian theoretical knowledge is proposed in dissertation thesis. The historical philosophical analysis of historical preconditions of nation formation is undertaken through the prism of ethnos essence. The use of such approach reveals the necessity of clear demarcation of ethnos and nation genesis and allows more precise description of content of such philosophical categories as ethnos, ethnicity, population and nation. The historical sequence of formation of modern content of "nation" term in Ukrainian and world historical philosophical thought context is reproduced. It is demonstrated on such the basis that specific of content of "nation" term was caused by specific of empirical material of regional processes of nations formation and resulted in formation of three main theories of nation - political, psychological and cultural. The philosophical analysis of dominating in Europe and Ukraine theoretical approaches to problem of nation formation chronology - modernism, perennialism, primordialism and ethnical symbolism - is undertaken. Theoretical and methodological differences of these approaches closely correlates to acceptance of objective or (and) subjective factors of nation formation, which allows to deny their abstract and general character.
