Essay

Subject of research - natural and anthropogenic aquatic landscapes polluted by environmentally dangerous chemical compounds. Purpose of research: using theoretical and methodological principles of constructive geography and ecology to define and introduce the environmentally acceptable limits of anthropogenic pressure on the aquatic landscapes to control pollution and ensure the conservation of their natural and social functions. Research methods: landscape and environmental, eco-toxicological, field, experimental and laboratory, modelling, and mathematical statistics. Scientific novelty: the environmentally acceptable limits of anthropogenic pressure on the aquatic landscapes have been defined on the basis of the systemic constructive geography methodology that combines the landscape and ecological approaches; the constructive geography methodology and subject-object relationships have been applied to set the chemical pollution limits for aquatic landscapes; the algorithm and methods for determining the acute and chronic water toxicity have been developed to enable the quantitative assessment of biotesting results and classification of surface water and wastewater quality; the geo-environmental approach has been applied to undertake the integrated assessment of real ecological state of aquatic landscapes based on the perceived level of damage caused to the aquatic ecosystem; the environmentally acceptable limits of anthropogenic pressure on the aquatic landscapes have been set based on the determination of the maximum admissible toxicity levels for wastewater; the biotesting results have been modeled and surface water and wastewater composition has been measured.
