The thesis contains a study of what constitutes "region", "mechanisms of governance", "regional development" and so on. It was determined that the region as an object of public administration - a territory within the administrative area, which is characterized by: the complexity, integrity, specialization and controllability, the presence of political and administrative authorities. In a broader sense, the term "region" is proposed to understand the state of the territory that has certain climatic, economic, ethnic, cultural, historical and other features.
