Essay

The dissertation was dedicated to the improvement of early diagnosis of cognitive impairment after stroke and optimization of treatment and preventive measures for their timely and adequate correction with the respect of clinical features, the dynamics of change and the nature of the impact of cardiovascular risk factors. Prevalence and the structure of post-stroke cognitive impairment in a population of city of Uzhgorod (Ukrainian Carpathians region) has been assessed, the basic trends of its dynamic changes on the basis of short-term (within the first 18-20 days after the stroke onset), medium term (one year) and long term (7 years) periods was analyzed. For the first time more informative subtest for patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment were developed using mathematical analysis, which provide sufficient diagnostic information on the structure of cognitive impairment and their severity during dynamic monitoring, prognosis and rehabilitation. The analysis of the recovery rate of the individual components of cognitive functioning revealed its heterogeneity in time and the impact of this phenomenon on the general cognitive defect. It was shown that in patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment proper rehabilitation with the use of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions may accelerate the recovery of cognitive functions
