Protection and defense is determined as related legal categories. Author defines protection as complex of means, which are performed by notary in order to prevent the breach of law and remove the obstacles in rights realization and defense of subjects of family relations in notarial procedure. The substance of defense includes the system of ways and means foreseened by civil and family legislation, aimed to recognition and confirmation of property and non-property rights, and renovation of subject of family relations status, which was before the breach of law.T
