Essay

The thesis is devoted to the development of efficient method of transformation of Cichorium intуbus L., Lactuca sativa L., Althaea officinalis L., Tragopogon porrifolius L., Lemna minor L., Artemisia tilesii Ledeb, Bidens pilosa L. and Ruta graveolens L. plants with human ifn-?2b or Mycobacterium tuberculosis esxA-fbpB genes using Agrobacterium tumefaciens or A. rhizogenes. An ability to synthesize natural biologically active compounds (artemisinin, fructans) and recombinant proteins (human interferon-alfa2b and Mycobacterium tuberculosis ESAT6-Ag85B antigens) has been demonstrated in biotechnology plants and "hairy" roots. Extracts of transgenic lines demonstrated UV-protective, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral activities.
