The research focuses on the determinants of innovation and actual transformations in the publishing industry of Eastern European region. Clarified the scope and reasonable place of term "innovation in publishing" in the terminology of the theory of publishing innovation. On the subject of primary and secondary researches studied the etymology of the concepts of innovation, innovation in publishing, technological innovation, communication innovation, market innovation; highlighted basic determinants that affect their development; faceted classification is justified. The mechanisms of efficient implementation and functioning of innovation in the space of the publishing industry is studied. Described modern innovative practices of publishers from Eastern European countries. Highlight problems and imbalances as a deterrent transformation of the publishing industry. Found possibilities of development of innovative processes in the book market and prospects of their development in various changes in market conditions.
