Essay

Object: Spring wheat breeding by interspecies hybridization to improve the genetic potential realization of the Triticum genus and to increase the efficiency of creation of competitive high-yielding top-quality varieties. Objective: Methodological justification of the genetic potential realization of the Triticum genus and creation of spring wheat varieties adapted to the conditions of Forest-steppe and Steppe of Ukraine, basing on novel scientific and methodological approaches. Methods: General scientific, field, measuring and weighing, laboratory, statistical. Novelty: For the first time in Ukraine, the technology of spring wheat breeding based on interspecies hybridization was theoretically rationalized and practically perfected. Efficiency patterns of creation of new spring wheat lines via distant hybridization and the effectiveness of creation of spring emmer varieties with easy threshing combined with other valuable economic characteristics were established. Valuable for breeding forms were distinguished, and their adaptability was increased by developing a method for identifying biotypes and creating industrial varieties of hexaploid homologues of hard spring wheat and spring emmer. Scientific ideas related to the effectiveness of involvement of hard and bread wheats and spring forms of T. dicoccum as well as to use of interspecies hybridization to improve the genetic potential of spring wheat were further developed. Results: Twelve spring wheat varieties that are included in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine have been created; 3 spring wheat varieties are being tested in the state variety trial; 14 holistically valuable lines of spring wheat were registered with NCPGRU. Four methods have been developed, 2 of them are used in a spring wheat breeding program; 2 methods are used to improve sustenance of the Ukrainian population. The priority of studies are confirmed by utility model patents. Degree of Implementation: The research results have been used in breeding programs and spring wheat seed production, in particular at the Plant Production Institute nd. a Vya Yuriev NAAS, Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute, Myronivka Institute of Wheat nd. a VM Remeslo NAAS, Uman National University of Horticulture as well as in the learning process at the National Agrarian Universities - in Sumy, Bila Tserkva and Kharkiv National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine. During 2009-2015, varieties, which were grown in Ukraine on the area of 400,000 hectares, in particular, in the Kharkiv region on the area of 46,000 ha, and gave yields up to 4.78 t / ha under production-line conditions, have been created. Basing on the results, 12 authorship certificates on spring wheat varieties and 4 utility model patents were obtained. Scope of Implementation: Scientific institutions of NAAS and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, higher educational establishments, agrarian enterprises of Ukraine.
