Essay

The research is the first to interpret the theoretical and methodological principles of studying literary movements of the Ukrainian literature in senior secondary schools. The author frames the constitutive features of artistic styles, formulates the theoretical and literary concepts for school teaching, analyses the methods orientated to acquire knowledge of varied style paradigms, characterizes different ways of class learning of a literary work as the phenomenon of a literary movement, develops the types of oral and the written speech, literary and regional studies of different styles of the Ukrainian literature. The research work defines the essence of literary competence in the field of literary movements. This competence is aimed at forming aesthetic values in literary art, the awareness of the artistic image of the world. The methodology for studying realism, impressionism, expressionism, symbolism, futurism, surrealism, postmodernism has been developed. The results of the experiment show the high level of competence in senior pupils in terms of literary movements: their acquisition of stable benchmarks in the art of speech; their interest in artistic works of different styles; the assimilation of spiritual values expressed in aesthetic categories of literary styles; the growth of creative potential of student's personality.
