Essay

In the dissertation the new conceptual principles of competence-oriented geography teaching are substantiated, developed and methodically implemented. In the thesis for the first time the concept of the subject geographical competence of the student as a system category is substantiated and its content and structure are developed. Also the content of subject-geographical competencies of students was substantiated theoretically and algorithms of their formation were developed. Improving the systematization of the forms of organization of the process of competence-based teaching of geography led to their division into two interconnected groups: the organization of educational and cognitive activity of students of geography (in traditional, interactive and independent modes of study) and the organization of conducting competency training (lesson, extra-curricular and out of school training). In order to develop methodological recommendations for competence-forming lessons in geography, their structure was specified. The structural features of non-traditional competence-forming lessons are substantiated and their variants are distinguished. The modern technologies of geography teaching, the components of which it is expedient to be used by the geography teacher when designing competency-forming lessons are described. On the basis of analysis of modern methods, types, techniques and methods of control of educational activities and educational achievements of geography students, the algorithms for designing and applying competence-oriented tasks in geography have been developed. Such tasks are made up of didactic tests, which are a system of questions and tasks of a specific form and increasing complexity, which enables to evaluate the structure qualitatively, effectively and objectively, and measure the level of formation of subject-geographical competencies of students. Competence-oriented tasks are aimed at finding by the student the ways of their solution with the obligatory use of geographical knowledge, skills and the previously formed scientific and value guidelines. The carried out pedagogical research was aimed at the development and testing of components of the methodological system for the formation of subject geographical competence of the students of the basic school, the experimental verification of the effectiveness of their system use and the development of methodological support for the activities of the teacher. The methodical recommendations and teaching materials, which were provided to the experimental teachers, were developed. The formative experiment confirmed that improvement of the results of teaching the geography students is possible thanks to the introduction of our scientifically based methodical system of formation of subject geographical competence of a student.
