Orlenko M. Issues and Methods of Restoration of the Architectural Monuments in Ukraine (11th century - the beginning of the 20th century).

The contents of abstract The thesis reviews the issues and methods of restoration of objects of the immovable historical and cultural heritage. The theoretical issues in the national restoration are associated with the lack of concepts from the developed and approved approaches to the implementation of restoration measures, where the whole complex of restoration measures would be systematized; with the absence of a unified database of passports of architectural monuments of Ukraine. The practical problems in the area of restoration in the country are associated with the lack of training of the qualified personnel, deficiency of modern equipment, requirements in scientific and methodological literature on the individual work, especially since the restoration technologies and materials have constantly improved and the restoration documentation requires continuous update in accordance with the new methods. The scientific novelty of the obtained results is as follows: For the first time: - the restoration activity is presented as an integrated system of the legal, information and analytical, scientific and technical, engineering and technological, material and financial provision and personnel support for the preservation and reconstruction of the immovable cultural heritage sites and the proposals were presented to resolve the problems; - the basis for the methodology of research of architectural and structural systems of architectural monuments, as well as structural and logical models of the architectural heritage objects, and the classification of functional components and elements of architectural and structural systems of architectural monuments in Ukraine (the 11th century - the beginning of the 20th century) were developed. The following information was summarized: - the state and issues of legislative, regulatory and procedural provision in the area of monument protection and restoration in Ukraine; the state of scientific restoration studies; the process of problems development and prospects for the development of the Ukrainian school of restoration; the organizational principles, staffing, material and technical support for the monument protective activities were described; - causes, varieties and nature of the emergency state of the main components of architectural and structural systems and elements of decoration of the external and internal surfaces of monuments; - the results of scientific and experimental works of the Ukrrestavratsia Corporation in the field of restoration and reconstruction of the architectural monuments during the last decades; - the methods of performance of restoration work have been refined and experimentally confirmed at specific sites in Ukraine; the restoration techniques for reconstruction of the destroyed architectural monuments have been recommended. The following issues were developed: - the scientific substantiation of the development prospects of the restoration branch in Ukraine, taking into consideration the monitoring of changes in the State Monument Protection Registry and, accordingly, the requirement in the monument protective activities; - the methodical basis for creating a system for monitoring the state of the architectural monuments and the information structure of the expert system in the field of restoration work.
