In the dissertation the notion of language and communicative competence and its components are characterized. The social and psychological factors of the formation of language and communicative competence in the light of the student's linguistic personality development are researched. The expediency of in-depth training of professional terminology by students is substantiated. Linguo-didactic basis of the formation of language and communicative competence (strategies, approaches, principles, methods, techniques and means) are identified. Criteria (content-cognitive, value-orientation, creativity) and levels of formation of the components of the language and communicative competence of students are distinguished. Cognitive-motivational, actually molding, generalization-reflexive stages of the formation of linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic components of linguistic and communicative competence.
