Shchepakin V. Formation of musical culture in the East and South of Ukraine in the context of Western European artistic influences (the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries)

The object of the research is the musical culture of Ukraine in the second half of the ХІХ and early ХХ centuries. A multilevel analysis of the influence of Western European artistic traditions on the musical culture formation in the East and South Ukraine during this historic period has been carried out. The decisive historical and cultural significance of the Western European musicians' activities in the formation of the academic musical art traditions of Kharkiv and Odessa has been revealed. The conclusion has been made on the definitive overcoming the insularity of musical culture of the East and South Ukraine at the beginning of the ХХ century and its entry with own significant achievements into the all-European process.
