Essay

The given thesis is the first attempt in methodology to theoretically substantiate and develop the methodological background of the system of professionally oriented teaching English to students majoring in technology at tertiary schools. It has been embedded in the conforming conception, which includes the structure, sequence and content of professionally oriented foreign language competence formation in students majoring in technology at tertiary schools. The principles of the above mentioned process have been hierarchized, the method (constructivist blended teaching) and within its limits the main experiential activities have been singled out. The models of teaching typical of each stage in the teaching process have been identified. The analysis of the current state of the English language teaching at tertiary schools in Ukraine shows that within the pedagogical practice of foreign language departments, two main approaches to teaching foreign languages for special purposes are used. Dueto the fact that both approaches have a number of contradictions, there appeared a need for the theoretical development and practical implementation of a conceptually new system of professionally oriented English language teaching to students majoring in technology at tertiary schools
