Essay

A complex study of the current state of the Ukrainian word-formative nomination in its three interrelated expressions: the language system, the collective (uzus) and the individual (idiolect) linguistic practice has been carried out in the thesis. This systematic study made for the modern Ukrainian word-formative nomination initiated a comprehensive approach to studying the sources, resources and word-formative processes in modern Ukrainian in their completeness and variety. For the first time in Ukrainian studies, the resources of the Ukrainian word-formative nomination are studied with in the various styles and spheres of the functioning of the language, at various time sections of its historical development, in the interaction of the word-formation system of language with the linguistic practice, the visual (collective) and the individual. The conceptual apparatus for comprehension of the new derivative vocabulary is proposed as a hierarchy of units at the level of the word-formation starting from a sample of word-formation for unique, occasional, single derivatives through word-formation models and types to the most general derivative unit, which is subjected to a set of hetero structured derivatives with a general conceptual (cognitive) structure. This approach for the comprehension of innovations reveals basic, actively updated and replenished word-formation categories of modern Ukrainian language: person, non-human, action, sign.
