Essay

The thesis focuses on the analysis of contemporary English-language fairy-tale narratives, which are transformed variants of classic literary fairy tales of Ch. Perrault and the Brothers Grimm and include both literary fairy tales and multimodal narratives – films, picture books, comics, digital fairy tales. The paper analyzes fairy-tale transformations, features of postmodern literature characteristic for fairy-tale narratives, intertextuality as an integral part of the contemporary fairy tale. A comparative analysis of text worlds of a traditional and a contemporary fairy tale has been conducted, components of input and generic spaces within the framework of the conceptual blending theory have been analyzed, and the correlations between texts and illustrations in contemporary illustrated fairy tales and picture books have been singled out. The paper offers the model of intermodal cohesion between characters, objects and actions, expressed by visual, verbal and audio modes.
