Essay

The first comprehensive intellectual biography of Nataliia Kobrynska in Ukrainian literary criticism presents various dimensions of her life – psychological, sociocultural, worldview, generational and creative. Archive materials introduced into academic discourse were used to reconstruct the mental image of writer and highlight previously unknown events of her life and her worldview principles. The generational identity of Nataliia Kobrynska has been conceptualized through the prism of her relations with leading representatives of literary generations (I. Franko, M. Pavlyk, M. Hrushevskyi, M. Drahomanov, O. Kobylianska, P. Kulish and his wife and others). A stereometric analysis of all the prose works of writer, including little known pieces, has been conducted for the first time from the viewpoint of esthetical and stylistic evolution, issues discussed, poetics, genre studies, intertextuality, history of writing and autobiographical genesis. The book is aimed at literary critics, historians, culture critics, political scientists, philosophers and others interested in the personality of Nataliia Kobrynska, her intellectual circles as well as the period between mid-19th century and early 20th century in Ukraine.
