Essay

The relevance of the thesis is defined by the need to consider the functionality of the emblematic mechanisms in the history of the Ukrainian literature, to trace the stage-by-stage modification of the iconic-conventional representations as well as their continuity and novelty from the primeval thinking to the modern text, to examine their coordinating and sensory regulating function, which has not been the subject of the research yet. For the first time ever in the national literary criticism the features of the emblematic form functioning in folklore and literary national discourses have been studied on the system level; the specific features, structural and semiotic modificativity have been interpreted. The stages of development, transformation and rectification, various time manifestations, relation to manifold iconic-conventional mechanisms and schemes have been traced. The definition distinctiveness of the “emblematic” categories in addition to word-formation modifications in the Ukrainian and European literary criticism have been provided; cognitive and epistemological evidences of an emblem have been pointed out.
