Essay

Object – the process of teaching intellectually gifted pupils in secondary schools; the aim – to scientifically substantiate and develop the system of forming key competences in intellectually gifted secondary school pupils in the process of teaching Social subjects and to experimentally test its effectiveness; methods – theoretical, empirical, of Mathematical statistics; novelty – the research is the first to characterize theoretical and methodological foundation of forming key competences in gifted pupils of 5-9 grades during their learning of Social subjects; the system of forming key competences in intellectually gifted secondary school pupils in the process of teaching Social subjects is theoretically substantiated, developed and experimentally tested; the criteria and indices characterizing the development levels of key competences in pupils are determined; the definition of competence is specified, the competence is defined as a personal formation representing the combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and habits, certain motives, personal values and qualities providing for carrying out some specific activity; the genesis of the idea of distinguishing intellectually gifted pupils and peculiarities of teaching them are studied; the theory of key competence forming in intellectually gifted middle school pupils in the process of teaching Social subjects has acquired further development; results – the positive results of experimental testing of theoretically substantiated system of forming key competences in intellectually gifted secondary school pupils in the process of teaching Social subjects allow us to recommend its implementation in the process of teaching of gifted middle school pupils. During investigation scientific methodological and didactic support for the implementation of the researched system has been developed: a series of experimental teaching manuals “Learning Together” for 5 and 6 grade pupils; the kit of teaching tasks and exercises to be used at Social subject lessons with 5-9 grade pupils; the tasks for independent learning activities on Social subjects of intellectually gifted pupils in secondary schools; the teaching recommendations for middle school teachers based on the theoretical ideas and conclusions of the research. The materials of the research will be valuable for those who teach “Pedagogy”, “History of Pedagogy”, methods of teaching Social subjects training students for teaching Social subjects to secondary school pupils; they will be useful for Bachelor and Master degree students of pedagogical institutions of higher education, for those who do professional pedagogical development courses, for writing Master degree papers; field – pedagogy.
