Essay

For the first time in the modern Ukrainian historiography of the revolutionary movement in the Russian Empire the notion of the Jewish factor in the history of the revolutionary movement in the Russian Empire was used. The historiography of the problem is analyzed, the main approaches to understanding the place and role of Jews in the revolutionary movement in the Russian Empire are presented. The theoretical and methodological principles of studying the Jewish factor in the revolutionary movement in the Russian Empire were substantiated substantially. The use of the theory of identity and the modernization theory of late-imperial Russia allowed the complex analysis of the crisis of identity of Russian Jews and their revolutionary nature, the phenomenon of the Russian-Jewish intelligentsia, as well as factors contributing to the exacerbation of the Jewish question in the Russian Empire, the explosion of Jewish pogroms, and the spread of anti-Semitism in the country. The reasons and preconditions of the revolutionary Russian Jews are determined. Established Jewish component in revolutionary populism.
