Mashtalir V. Military history-related museum affairs in Ukraine: preconditions, formation and development (the end of the XIX – the beginning of the XXI century).

The dissertation is devoted to the little-known and important research problem of the formation and development of military history museums in Ukraine (the end of the XIX – the beginning of the XXI century). It researches into the genesis of the Ukrainian military-related museum affairs based on the wide circle of published works and sources that are introduced to the scientific database for the first time. It analyzes crucial tendencies and specifics of the development of the Ukrainian military history museum networks, explains the current-time social function of the military history museums, the museums` functional areas, formation periods, forms and methods of their operating, as well as their place and role in the national consciousness and in the use of collected historical and national heritage. The study of current-time military-related museum affairs in Ukraine allows for emphasizing the increase of the role of military history museums in the renewal of the historical memory of the nation, the build-up of the national society and strengthening its foundation of patriotism. Recommendations are proposed regarding an operational effectiveness increase of military history museums in Ukraine, and broadening of their network. Characteristics of military-related museum affairs as of a separate museum-related area phenomenon as well as the military-related museum affairs specifics have been analyzed.
