Essay

The thesis presents the results of integrated studies conducted during 2011-2017 on the research of theoretical and practical aspects of corn production for its processing into biofuels. The works of domestic and foreign scientists on the characteristics of corn cultivation in Ukraine and abroad are analyzed. The effect of vegetation and technology factors on the productivity and starch content in grain is highlighted. It has been found that an increase in the size of seed fraction contributes to the extension of “cob flowering-full grain maturity” period in the studied corn hybrids on average by 1-3 days. An increase in the seeding depth up to 11 cm extends the duration of the period of “seeding-germinating” by 2-3 days compared to the shallow seeding depth of 4-5 cm. Extension of the duration of the growing season leads to an increase in the leaf surface area by 2.9-12.3 thousand m2/ha, late planting date – by 2.9-5.2 thousand m2/ha compared to the early one; foliar nutrition – by 0.3-5.6 thousand m2/ha compared to the control; application of the large seed fraction – by 3.7-7.0 thousand m2/ha compared to small ones; the largest leaf surface area (31.8 thousand m2/ha) is formed under the seeding depth of 7-8 cm.
