Essay

For the first time in Ukrainian linguistics, the concept of interaction of the components of the language situation in the educational sphere of a culturally heterogeneous post-totalitarian society at the stage of development of an independent state has been proposed; the conditionality of the interaction of the Ukrainian and Russian languages in school education has been substantiated by the configuration of national language situation, the common factors of spontaneous communication, language behaviour and habits of participants in the educational process, formed under the influence of the language situation in a particular region; a typology of models of verbal behaviour of students in the context of bilingualism has been developed; signs of a distorted linguistic situation have been revealed in the linguistic practices of teachers and students and in the discourse of school textbooks.
