Essay

The object of the research is the emotions of anger, fear, sadness, and disgust, actualized in communicative situations of modern English feature cinematic discourse. The subject ‒ is cognitive, pragmatic, and linguosemiotic characteristics of anger, fear, sadness, and disgust, as well as mechanisms of their multisemiosis and models of actualization in English cinematic discourse. The aim of the research is to establish cognitive, pragmatic, and linguosemiotic characteristics of anger, fear, sadness, disgust in English cinematic discourse and to determine the mechanisms and models of their actualization by verbal, nonverbal, and cinematic means. The methodological apparatus of the research integrates general scientific (induction, deduction, analysis, and synthesis), general linguistic (methods of cognitive and communicative linguistics, semiotics and linguopragmatics), and special linguistic methods. The scientific novelty of the work is determined by the pioneering a new field of linguistic research ‒ cognitive-pragmatic emotive linguistics of film aimed at studying the role of emotions in the process of film meaning-meaning and determining mechanisms of emotion actualization in cinematic discourse. The theoretical significance of the work lies in its contribution to discourse, linguosemiotics, cognitive linguistics. The practical value of the results lies in the possibility of their use in teaching lexicology of English (section "Lexical semantics"), general linguistics (sections “Language and Cognition”, “Language as a sign”), courses on the theory of communication, discourse, linguosemiotics, film linguistics, and cognitive linguistics, in scientific research of undergraduates and graduate students.
