Essay

The dissertation is devoted to a comprehensive study of the problems of preventing and combating corruption in Ukraine. The essence of corruption, its features, causes and consequences are studied, the most corruption-causing spheres are identified and characterized. The criminological description of corruption acts and subjects of their commission is given. The necessity of harmonization of key terms used in legislation and criminology to denote corruption acts and corruption-causing phenomena is substantiated. It is stated that the legislative definitions of «corruption crime», «corruption offense», «corruption offense for which criminal liability is provided», «corruption-related offenses» are obviously imperfect, incomplete and contradictory both internally and in relation to one to one. In addition, the law provides for offenses that show signs of corruption, but are not covered by any of these terms.
