Essay

The dissertation is the first in modern Ukrainian linguistics conceptually integral research of the oikonymic space of Ukraine, in particular of its astionymic component, in onomastic and linguoculturological aspects, performed in system-structural and anthropocentric scientific paradigms. The author has outlined and unified conceptual and terminological apparatus for the nomination of onymic and appellate codes; introduced the terms oikoculturonym / astioculturonym into scientific circulation to denote an onomastic unit as lingual and culturological value; suggested the terms appellate and onymic codes of astionyms; anthroponymic individual, anthroponymic collective, memorial, hydronymic, microtoponymic, oronymic, choronymic, ergonymous; landscape-artefact, local-ethnic, official, symbolic-ideological codes; selected microcodes in the astionymicon system; modelled linguoculturological portraits of all the names of modern Ukrainian cities with the separation in their structure of nuclear and interpretation zones, zones of near and far periphery. It has been proved that astioculturonyms encode two large information layers – onymic and appellate ones. Modelling linguoculturological portraits of astionyms of onymic code allowed considering the genesis, peculiarities of functioning, cultural-historical and national conditionality of each name, motivated by the onym.
