Essay

Canada’s position on human rights violations in the Ukrainian SSR (1945–1991) was studied in its full complexity in the thesis. It has been found out that in the Diaspora the human rights movement has become not only the embodiment of the struggle for democracy, but also for the national liberation of Ukraine in general. The measures of Canadian Ukrainians to introduce the problem of human rights violations in the Ukrainian SSR into the public space of the country, the place of this issue in Canadian-Soviet bilateral relations, in particular in the framework of “quiet diplomacy”, drawing the world’s attention to human and national rights under the Iron Curtain at various international forums are analyzed.
