The study focuses on the training of future foreign literature teachers the genre analysis of epic short and lyrico-epic multinational works of fiction. The developed methodology of genre analysis of multinational works of fiction is based on conceptual philosophical, literary, psychological, pedagogical, methodological provisions, as well as on modern scientific approaches (cultural-semantic; multicultural; systemic; activity; person-centred) and principles of (accessibility; systemacity; unity of national and universal; humanization; problematicity; integrity; dialogue of cultures; empathy). The genesis of the formation of the methodology of genre analysis of a work of fiction has been considered, and the priority methodological directions of foreign literature study have been defined. The effective psychological and pedagogical conditions for the implementation of genre analysis of multinational works of fiction, particularly motivational-target, subject-oriented and organizational-technological ones, have been determined. The ways of activating the educational and cognitive activity of future teachers of foreign literature while conducting genre analysis of multinational works of fiction have been highlighted and the levels of the development of student’s cognitive activity have been identified.The content of educational and methodological support of the process of teaching students of Philology faculties genre analysis of multinational works of fiction has been analysed. The dissertation clarifies the nature and the meaning of basic research concepts: “student’s genre literacy”, “genre analysis of a work of fiction”, “genre way of analysing a work of fiction with regard to national specificity”, “genre competence” and presents the author’s definitions; substantiates and describes the structure of philology student’s genre literacy. The author’s methodology of forming knowledge, skills and abilities of genre analysis of epic short and lyrico-epic multinational works of fiction have been theoretically proved and modeled. The stages of forming and developing of philology students’ abilities and skills of genre analysis of multinational works of fiction have been identified. The complex of effective methods, techniques and means of teaching genre analysis of multinational works of fiction has been described. The scheme of genre analysis of short stories, parables, fairy tales, fables, ballads and poems with regard to national specificity has been developed and tested. The criteria, indicators and the level of formed future foreign literature teachers’ knowledge, abilities and skills of genre analysis of epic short and lyrico-epic multinational works of fiction have been determined and substantiated. The effectiveness of the developed methodology of teaching genre analysis of epic short and lyrico-epic multinational works of fiction to philology students has been proved. It has been proved that the suggested methodology of teaching genre analysis of short epic and lyrico-epic multinational works of fiction to philology students is rational and promising; it encourages future teachers to study works of fiction through the prism of genre and compare their features in different literatures. The main provisions of the dissertation and the author’s methodology can be used in the curricula of foreign literature standard and elective courses in higher education institutions, in the system of postgraduate pedagogical education, as well as in the development of textbooks, educational and methodological manuals, tutorials and guidelines.
