Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the pathogenetic substantiation and development of a set of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic-prophylactic measures in pregnant women whose pregnancy is complicated by placental dys-function, manifested by fetal growth restriction syndrome and underlying pineal gland dysfunction. The effect of light regimen on pregnancy and on the structure and functioning of the pineal gland during pregnancy was established by the study conducted on experimental animals (pregnant rats). In pregnant women with diag-nosed placental dysfunction the structure of sleep disorders and the nature of melatonin secretion have been established. For the first time the relationships were established between functioning of the pineal gland, changes in the activity of the cytokine part of the immune system and indicators of homeostasis of the fe-toplacental complex in pregnant women with underlying clinically diagnosed placental dysfunction; the corre-lations between the mentioned indicators were studied. Changes in the concentrations of melatonin, cytokines and placental growth factor in the umbilical cord blood of mothers whose pregnancy was complicated by pla-cental dysfunction were observed. The expression and distribution of melatonin receptors 1A and 1B types in the placental tissue with underlying placental dysfunction were studied. The thesis suggests a set of diagnostic and therapeutic-prophylactic measures aimed at improving of the perinatal outcomes in case of placental dysfunction, manifested by fetal growth restriction syndrome, by means of normalizing the work of the pineal gland in pregnant women.
