Sosnova N. Theoretic and Methodological Bases of Formation of Public Spaces of Ukrainian Cities

Theoretical and methodological foundations of formation and development of public spaces of Ukrainian cities have been developed in the dissertation work. The work is directed to the systematic consideration of the object of research. The public space of Ukrainian cities is considered as a system of scientific integrative knowledge on its essence and patterns of development, on the one hand, and practical requirements for its functioning as a structural element of the city, on the other hand. The differences of the main types of public spaces, their properties and role in urban development are outlined. On the example of the cities of Kharkiv, Lviv, Kryvyi Rih, a place of public space was defined as a general-type object, in the functional and planning structure of the city. The paper developed methodological recommendations on the organization and regulation of the development of public spaces on the basis of multicriterial assessment of functioning according to 4 groups of criteria: urban forming with an aspect of safety, social, economic and environmental.
