In the process of the research, analysis and synthesis of special scholarly publications on the selected issue, the theoretical and methodological foundations are substantiated and the methodology for the development of key competencies in 10- 11th graders in the process of teaching the Ukrainian language lexicology (on the material of the family lexis) is elaborated due to the strategy of the educational targets of the New Ukrainian School, namely, the necessity for updating and supplementing the content of teaching the Ukrainian language in the 10-11th grades of general secondary education institutions (the profession-oriented level) in compliance with the requirements of the competency-based approach and educational guidelines of the current curriculum on the Ukrainian language for 10-11th graders (the profession-oriented level); social need to revive the links between representatives of different generations of Ukrainian families; preservation of historically patterned cultural practices and the traditions thereof; dissemination of values of a particular family and the need to develop four essential key competencies in senior pupils: 1) language proficiency in the national language; 2) the ability to speak a native language (in case it differs from the national one) and foreign languages; 3) civil and social competencies and 4) cultural competencies, on the development of which the attention is focused in the process of teaching lexicology of the Ukrainian language in senior classes at the profession-oriented level, its powerful educational and motivational potential for forming conscious perception in junior citizens, acquisition and usage of lexical family nominations as an essential factor in correcting and tolerating one’s own communicative activities in personal and future professional fields.As a result of the experimental-and-research teaching, the efficiency of the suggested methodology for the development of key competencies in 10-11th graders in the process of teaching the Ukrainian language lexicology (on the material of the family lexis) is proven.
