Essay

The object of research is regional identity in the modern European process; the purpose of the dissertation is to conceptualize the concept of regional identity and reveal the nature of the relationship and vectors of development of regional identity and the nation state in Europe; methods: historical-political, comparative-historical, comparative, structural-functional, sociological, etc.) methods, as well as systemic and neo-institutional approaches; scientific novelty - for the first time: it is substantiated that in those countries where there are regions with a clear regional identity, there is resistance, sometimes radical assimilation and "dissolution" in the nation state; based on a comparative analysis of models of devolution in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Spain and Italy, it is stated that states, focusing on geographical, economic, administrative, cultural and historical background, determine the boundaries of their regions, and therefore goals and mechanisms. which should be implemented in a particular country, are different, as a result, and models of devolution are also different. But what they have in common is that devolution has strengthened regional identities in the countries under study and contributed to the emergence or strengthening of two identities: regional and national; results - can be used by representatives of national governments, public figures who develop an effective modern model of regional identity. The materials and conclusions of the dissertation will assist in the development, improvement and teaching of various courses in higher education, including "Political Science", "International Relations", "Political Regionalism", "National Policy", "Political Conflictology", "Comparative Political Science" and more.
