Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of efficient sustainable crop production in the context of climate change within the framework of industrial climate-smart griculture. The work proposes modern agro-climatic zoning of the territory of Ukraine, considering the crops' requirements for irrigation, the aridity index and soil moisture regime. Mathematical models of the reclaimed lands' productivity, depending on forest melioration and irrigation measures, have been developed. The methodology for reference evapotranspiration assessment in Ukraine, based on the average air temperature, has been improved. Mathematical models of greenhouse gases emissions, depending on agrotechnological loads on agroecosystems, are presented. Methodological approaches and mathematical models for phenological monitoring and crops' productivity prediction based on remote sensing data have been developed. Mobile applications for practical implementation of theoretical achievements, based on the results of the dissertation work, have been developed, namely, Evapotranspiration Calculator (Ukraine) for operational assessment of reference evapotranspiration, and NDVI Converter for mutual conversion between the values of the normalized difference vegetation index and fractions of green canopy cover. Key words: vegetation index, global warming, remote sensing, evapotranspiration, greenhouse gas emissions, irrigation, climate-smart agriculture, afforestation, mathematical modeling, yield forecasting, satellite crop monitoring, precision farming.
