Research subjects: operating on the territory of Ukraine grain markets (food, feed and seed grain markets. Research objectives: improvement of estimation of market functioning effectiveness and development of such economic mechanisms of grain market forming and functioning, that would provide dynamic development of grain sector and allied sectors at the stage of transitional economy and for further outlook on the basis of rational combination of the market and state regulation mechanisms. Methods: balance, correlation-regression, statistical grouping, indexes, calculation-design; situational and functional-institutional analysis. Theoretical and practical results: a core of grain markets and their place and role in the system of agro-industrial complex were defined, a notion of economic mechanism for transitional period conditions was elaborated; methodical approaches to forecasting market conditions and grain markets projection up to 2005 year were developed; efficiency of economic mechanisms of grain and flour market functioning in 90-th was estimated; projection mechanisms of grain markets management up to 2005 were developed. Novelty of introduced: a methodology of the complex estimation of effectiveness of market functioning economic mechanism was developed first in Ukraine. According to it effectiveness of functioning of grain market mechanism and measures on state regulation were estimated, disadvantages were shown up and improved mechanisms of functioning of food, feed and seed grain markets were proposed for the future. Implementation degree: results were partially used in preparation of legislative and normative acts, brought to the form of recommendations and standard regulations, approved by the Ministry of the Agro-industrial Complex; are implemented in regions. Effectiveness: to be promote the dinamic development of the grain production and processing. Sphere, sector of implementation: agricultural economy (grain production, seed breeding) and processing industry economy (flour milling, mixed feed production.)
