Essay

The content and directions (public-educational, journalistic, editorial, cultural-educational) of N. Hryhoriiv’s pedagogical and scientific-educational activity for reproduction of education development in Ukraine at the end of the 19th - the first half of the 20th century have been clarified in the dissertation for the first time. Scientific understanding of the problem historiography and the research source base has been improved. The formation and development of N. Hryhoriiv’s personality have been covered. The main periods of his pedagogical and scientific-educational activity are distinguished and characterized. They are as follows: the first period (1904 –1917) –the initial period of N. Hryhoriiv’s formation as a professional teacher; the second period (1918 – 1920) – N. Hryhoriiv’s formation as a politician and statesman; the third period (1921 – 1953) – the teacher’s active educational activity abroad. The content of the textbooks by N. Hryhoriiv has been analyzed. Nykyfir Yakovych Hryhoriiv’s general pedagogical views and ideas have been improved. The problem historiography and the research source base have been analyzed. It has been discovered that N. Hryhoriiv as pedagogue and his pedagogical heritage are insufficiently researched in historical and pedagogical science. The main groups of researches have been established. Thus, the distinguished works are thematically grouped as follows: publications on Hryhoriiv’s personality and his activity, works on pedagogical and teaching activity, publications on participation in the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921, works on social and educational activity, publications on teaching and pedagogical work.
